History of Grama Panchayat
Pandanad Panchayat was formed on January 1, 1962, incorporating only the wards that belonged to Pandanad Village. Prior to the formation of the panchayat, the Pandanad region was part of the Thiruvanvandoor Panchayat. The current panchayat office is situated on a plot of land acquired in 1966 from Smt. Kalyaniyamma of Padinjaremaddom. Elders say that the name 'Pandanad' originated because it was the land where the Pancha Pandavas (from the Mahabharata) once lived. Until elected representatives assumed governance, a Special Officer managed the administrative affairs of the panchayat. A. J. John was elected as the first President of the Pandanad Panchayat.
Pandanad Grama Panchayat, situated on both banks of the holy Pamba River which originates from the highly revered Sabarimala, possesses a coastal plain-like topography. Although there is a marginal slope from east to west, the Pamba River divides Pandanad into two sections: North and South. Wards 1 to 4, along with a portion of Ward 8, are located on the northern side of the Pamba River, while Wards 5 to 14 are situated on the southern side.
